Tomas Bata's plane crash memorial stone in Otrokovice
The place, where the pilot Jindřich Brouček and the factory owner Tomas Bata crashed in 1932 with a Junkers F13 plane, is today commemorated by a modest memorial stone hidden among the factory buildings to which Bata devoted his whole life.
The factory buildings of Bata origin stand on the former swamps. The red brickwork with dimensions of 6.15 x 6.15 m, the strict geometric layout and a number of technical innovations allow perfect use of resources and make production more efficient. There was also an airfield for passenger planes, which were a great passion of Tomas Bata for their speed and technical perfection. Unfortunately, they were fatal to him in the end.
A Junkers F13 plane crashed on the morning of 12 July 1932 just a few metres from the new factory buildings in Otrokovice. Both Tomas Bata and his pilot Jindřich Brouček died at the scene.
This place is today commemorated by a modest memorial stone hidden among the factory buildings of the TOMA complex (formerly Bata's factories) in Otrokovice.
