Jamai Cafe Bata Skyscraper

This rooftop café atop the Bata Skyscraper offers the most luxurious view in Zlín. Take the express elevator to the 16th floor and admire the city in all its functionalist glory. The precisely arranged grid of factory buildings, the well-thought-out structure of schools, dormitories, and residential quarters – all this will be right at your fingertips.

National Cultural Monument of Functionalism

The Bata Skyscraper, also known as "Jednadvacítka" (Building No. 21), is a must-see for any visitor to Zlín. When architect Vladimír Karfík completed the construction of the Bata headquarters in 1939, this 77.5-meter skyscraper became the tallest administrative building in Europe. At the time, it stood out not only for its height but also for its revolutionary technologies – from a teletype system to a special document elevator and a paper chute. Today, it houses the Regional and Financial Office of the Zlín Region, and visitors can explore many of its original features.

On weekdays, the unique paternoster elevator still operates here – with 30 cabins and a height of 58.5 meters, it is the longest functioning paternoster in the Czech Republic. The 8th floor also houses authentic executive offices, which still reflect the spirit of Bata's business philosophy.

A View That Will Amaze You

On the observation terrace, you’ll find telescopes of the same type used on American skyscrapers. Through them, you can admire the intricate details of Bata’s housing estates or appreciate the checkerboard layout of the factory complex. Don't forget to touch the bronze model of Zlín, which offers insight into the city's urban design.

Our Tip

Want to learn more about the Bata Skyscraper? Book a guided tour, which includes access to the terrace and a ride in the original J. A. Bata office elevator. Tours are available from Tuesday to Sunday by prior reservation at the Museum of South East Moravia in Zlín.
