Hotel Tomášov

Tomášov served as an elite school for talented students who were educated to become directors of Bata's factories. The students attended in black tailcoats and top hats, and although the school was in operation only for a few years, it still has the elegance of the First (Czechoslovak) Republic. Come in for a cup of coffee, film screening or an evening dance in the summer. Pamper yourself with spa treatments or a massage.

The education system in Zlín was as sophisticated as the production system. The Bata School of Labour prepared young men and women not only for work in the company, but also for marriage or representing the company. In the mid-1930s, the company lacked young men who could hold the highest managerial positions, travel the world thanks to their language skills and arrange contracts not only with business partners but also with prime ministers or noble families.

Tomášov was therefore modelled after elite American universities. The two-year course prepared young men theoretically and linguistically, but also practically - by teaching them etiquette, golf or horse riding. Even though the young men came here in top hats and tailcoats, the building designed by Vladimír Karfík did not look pompous and followed the classic pattern of factory buildings. Students also worked in the factory every day. Once a week they dined with Jan Antonín Bata. Although Tomášov was educating the future elite, the young men of Tomášov had to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

The building opened to students in 1938 but served its purpose for only three years. In post-war Czechoslovakia, there was no room for the elite and the building became part of the Svit national enterprise. It was used as a medical ward, surgery and gynaecology.

Today, Tomášov is a place of many purposes. There is a clinic for reproductive medicine and gynaecology, a pharmacy, but also a hotel with a restaurant and a terrace placed in the middle of nature. A place where a large number of cultural events take place. In the warm spring and summer months, you can attend a summer cinema screening, a traditional evening dance or an open-air yoga session. All year round, you can treat yourself in a private spa centre. The designer spa offers a whirlpool with overflow, a Finnish sauna, a Kneipp pavement, showers with cooling oak buckets and comfortable beds in the relaxation area. The spa centre also offers several types of massages. From sports, relaxation, lymphatic and pregnancy massages to hot lava stones and cupping therapy.
